verbier4vallees Top Trumps Black Runs
If you know verbier4vallees and you have skied here, then you probably
know the skiing can be challenging and the itineraries are our big talking point.
Whilst the itineraries deserve their status, spare a thought for our black runs, some
used to be itineraries, some used to be official race pistes but they are all fun and
deserve their own mention so here we go, my top trumps of verbier4vallees black
runs.
Ethérolla, Thyon
- Altitude : 2450m
- Distance: 1.8km
- Vertical drop: 543m
- Speed: Medium
- Moguls: End of a busy day
This run is narrow at the beginning but opens towards the bottom where it gets good
for sending, doesn’t get icy until the end of the spring weeks.
Greppon blanc 1, Siviez
- Altitude : 2700m
- Distance: 1.1km
- Vertical drop: 422m
- Speed: Large
- Moguls: On the side
,Get off the drag lift to the right, get straight on your edges as this run can be FIRM from the start, sliders can occur!
Greppon blanc 3, Siviez
- Altitude : 2700m
- Distance: 0.7km
- Vertical drop: 242m
- Speed: Medium
- Moguls: On the side
This is a good lapping lift, due to be upgraded, the snow stays good here and it’s
never too busy, worth a lap on your way past.
Les Crêtes, Thyon
- Altitude : 2400m
- Distance: 15km
- Vertical drop: 380km
- Speed: Medium
- Moguls: End of a busy day
I’ve only skied this once but loved it, take a trip to Thyon, take in this run and
Ethérolla back-to-back, you’ll be smiling all day
Mont-Fort, Verbier
- Altitude: 3330m
- Distance: 1.7km
- Vertical drop: 481m
- Speed: Medium
- Moguls: Lots & Big
You all know this one, coming as our highest black run, care needs to be taken with
this beast, you can fall on all our others and slide to a stop but fall here and you’re in
trouble, don’t stop to think, just stop.
Plan du fou, Nendaz
- Altitude: 2430m
- Distance: 3.2km
- Vertical drop: 711m
- Speed: Very
- Moguls : Never
This is STEEP and LONG, coming in as our 2 nd longest but by far our steepest, Plan
du Fou used to be an itinerary but they re-categorised it so everyone could ski back
to Nendaz, easy entry and then hold on tight riders as “Fou” means crazy.
FIS, Verbier
- Altitude: 2734m
- Distance: 0.6km
- Vertical drop: 180m
- Speed: Large
- Moguls: No
Starting at Attelas and going all the way almost to Verbier town, this is our longest
and biggest drop black run in Verbier 4valleys, it’s broken into 3 parts, FIS inférieure,
FIS intermédiaire and FIS Supérieure, all these parts are good but ski them all in one
go, in the morning and you’re living the “groomers dream”
Lacs, Verbier
- Altitude: 2734m
- Distance: 0.6km
- Vertical drop: 180m
- Speed: Large
- Moguls: No
Short and sweet, just don’t fall and slide under the lift with everyone watching, also
do not take off on the compression!
Pistes des Prof, Verbier
- Altitude: 2191m
- Distance: 0.8km
- Vertical drop: 345m
- Fast: Large
- Moguls: On the side
This is a good training piste, fast turn around on the Mayenzet lift, don’t go too fast at
the top, it’ll end bad at the bottom
Pasay, Bruson
- Altitude: 2228m
- Distance: 1.1km
- Vertical drop: 420m
- Speed: Very
- Moguls: No
Last but not least, Pasay is still a fully operational FIS racing piste, with steeps, flats,
rolls and compressions you’ll need legs of steels to send it from top to bottom
That’s our black runs folks and the winner is………? I’ll let you decide, I have my
winner but you’ll have to come find me and we can go ski it. With our season
already underway it won’t be long before these are all ready to go.
This is the first in the ski coach Marty’s top trumps editions so keep checking in!!!
